ASK Scholarship

New Scholarship Requirements as of July 2018:


Annual Scholarship Amount:    $1000.00 (one scholarship awarded per year)

Eligibility criteria for selection is as follows:

  • Scholarship is available to the general public
  • Active membership (dues paid) and in good standing with the Association of Shotokan Karate Council
  • Volunteer contribution to the ASK Council supported by a letter from your current Sensei
  • Acceptance into a full-time program at a post-secondary institution; Proof of acceptance and recent transcripts must be provided before the scholarship is released
  • Scholarship can only be received one time per recipient
  • Submission includes a word processed/written essay between 250 – 500 words on the topic “How Karate has had an impact in my life?”
  • Completed application to be received at by August 30th of the calendar year.

The selection committee, who are members of the ASK Board of Directors (Board members who have children applying and are on the selection committee are excluded so there is no conflict of interest), will be basing their decision on:

  • Proof of Acceptance
  • Academic accomplishments (based on most recent transcripts)
  • Letter of support by Sensei
  • Essay submission
  • Extra-curricular/Volunteer activities
  • Martial arts level and achievement.

Please include the following information in your application:

  • Name, mailing address, email address, and phone number
  • Dojo, name of Sensei, and belt level
  • Essay
  • Proof of acceptance and most recent transcripts from a recognized post-secondary institute
  • List of volunteer involvement supporting the ASK
  • List of other volunteer involvement and/or extra-curricular activities.

Regular Mail:  Sent no later than August 20 of current year with application and supporting documentation.

Email:  A scanned copy (PDF file) of your application and supportive documents is accepted to midnight August 30 of the current year.  Keep all originals if required by the selection committee.
